Project Description
After seven years with the original web site, the Chair realized that its content and organization had out-grown the old site. The Canada Research Chair on Citizenship and Governance of the Université de Montréal, has the redesign of social policy, citizenship practices and social cohesion in Canada and European Union as its theme. A new design and architecture was required to breathe new life and ease navigation around the site.
The redesign started with reworking the logo design. Clarification of the symbol was the main concern. Refining the letters – their colours and form, thus reinforcing the shape of the globe clarified the symbol.
At the same time as we redefined the colour scheme for the logo, we began applying this to the new look and feel of the web site. These new colours helped brighten the site and added to the contemporary feel.
Architecture & transfer
Working within the guidelines set out for all sites within the University system a new architecture, page grid and style sheets. The main goal was to improve usability for the main stakeholders – academics, students and the general public alike, – advance access to papers and events sponsored by the Chair.
All existing published material, html pages, PDF’s, Word documents and images were transferred to the new site. Each document or file was verified to ensure that the new styles had been properly applied. Special cases were treated manually. Additionally, all meta data was revised to meet today’s standards or in many cases added for the first time.
Mini-site
In a project running parallel, we created a new site for an up-coming conference — RC 19 — hosted by the Canada Research Chair on Citizenship and Governance of the Université de Montréal.
