The nice thing about the Kentico development team is that they don't only come up with new features for developers, but they also think from the client perspective. Version 4.0 introduces a mini image editor that might come handy for end-users who don't have an image editor available. Or if your uploaded image is just 1px too big and you just closed Phtotoshop…
If you are a designer, there is certainly nothing exciting about this feature, but many content managers do not have any desktop image editors available at all and this little tool can be a real time safer: Instead of sending the image per e-mail to the designer to have it resized it can be simply done within the CMS.
The tool includes the most basic editor features: resize, rotate in 90 degree steps, flip and trim. Additionally the image can be converted into a greyscale image and the file format can be converted from and into bmp, jpg, gif and png.

Using the built-in image editor I was able to trim away the browser from the screenshot and resize the editor screen shot to fit this layout. Photoshop free.
Rotating, flipping and trimming images does not alter the image quality. Resizing of course does, but I was surprised with the quality of the resized image. The image not only gets scaled, but also sharpened just a bit to counterbalance the blur-effect resizing usually has on images.
The trimming feature allows you to remove pixels from the image, similar to the function "edit canvas size" in Photoshop does. However, I would have preferred to see a real cropping tool here that allows you to cut out a custom rectangle from the image. Doing this with the trimming tool would require several steps and some guessing about how many pixels you need to crop. Well, maybe in the next version, that should also see this feature integrated with the media libraries.

If you are new to version 4: The image editor is hidden behind this tiny icon in the form tab.
