Kentico 4.0 brings many new features

February 6th, Kentico released version 4.0 of its already outstanding content management system. New and improved features abound. The biggest advancements are undeniably the integration of social networking features into the CMS. But there are many other improvements that will also help in building corporate and informational sites.

Eager to look under the hood, I installed the new version on my development server and will test drive and analyse all new functionalities over the weeks to come.

For sure, one single blog post will not be enough to cover all improvements. For this reason in the month of March and probably April as well, I will cover in more details the new features as I implement them into the r42 site.

Featured that will be covered over the coming weeks

• Blog improvements: On-site editing, tags and tag clouds as well as categories
• Media Libraries: Improved support for heavy files like video and long audio features, as well as huge image libraries
• Built-in image editor: This will undoubtedly make life easier for some clients, since it will allow resizing and rotation of images without the use of Photoshop or any other costly editor
• URL aliasing: The possibility of having multiple URLs resolving to the same page.
• Notification engine: Get notified if something is changing in the site
• New mail queue: Will make the sending of newsletters more reliable
